The Basement: Conversations of Foundations of ART

Some of the hardest working elements of our daily lives never see the light of day. The pipes carrying water from the source to the tap. The furnace pushing heat to our cozy spaces in winter. The plastic tub of Christmas lights that we’re going to untangle… next time. Most of these creature comforts are afforded to us through one vessel: The Basement.
The Basement is the FOUNDATION of our safe spaces. Often buried out of sight to promote out of mind status, the basement holds our convenience, our clutter, and sometimes; our secrets. Once upon a time though, the basement too had its moment amongst the celebrated achievements of architecture. Why? Because the PARTY was in THE BASEMENT!
The exposed pipes. The dimly lit corners. The somewhat “off” scent. All of these elements combined with the rhythm of the night to generate an energy so contagious total strangers morphed into comrades.
The Basement is an exhibition and experience of creative culture and community passion featuring live painting, music, ART, and most importantly; connection.
Hosted in the CMAD of Yonkers Sunday May 17th 11am- 5pm was an experience built to enhance the foundation of creative community.
